Just days after a 6-0 defeat at the hands of the Fargo Davies Eagles, the Grand Forks KnightRiders traveled to Quentin Burdick Arena in Devils Lake, taking down the Firebirds on the road by a final score of 4-3. Devils Lake jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first period, with back-to- back goals by Kaylie Klemetsrud. That's when the KnightRiders took charge. At the 2:05 mark of the second period, Emily Benson scored an unassisted goal to cut the lead to 2-1. Then, four minutes later, Abby Schauer took a pass from Hannah Gray, shot it past Molly Black and made it 2-2. Less than three minutes later, Gray again connected, this time with Katelin Peterson, making it 3-2 in favor of the road KnightRiders. The score would stay 3-2 until late in the second, when a goal by Elle Black made it a tie game with 2:41 left in the second period. The teams would play back-and-forth for the majority of the beginning of period 3, but it was Schauer that put the KnightRiders ahead for good just five minutes into the third period. Kendra Nordick was the goalie for the KnightRiders, stopping 35 of 39 shots she faced. The KnightRiders improved to 1-1 on the season, and 1-1 in the conference.
